Tacoma opens survey on neighborhoods

A survey is now open for residents of Tacoma to provide feedback on the Neighborhood Council program of the city.

The Standards and Guidelines of the Neighborhood Council are reviewed every five years and focus on supporting accessibility and transparency of the government and fostering deeper levels of engagement by the community. Suggestions can also be made for possible amendments to Tacoma Municipal Code 1.45. This is a process that needs to be carried out every five years.

There are eight Neighborhood Councils in Tacoma and one overarching Community Council which supports the diverse communities of and engagement with the city. The goal of the Neighborhood Council Program is to create an environment in which members of the community have an opportunity to bring goals, concerns, and priorities to the attention of the city; discuss policies and programs of the city that affect their neighborhood; and encourage representative participation and diverse relationships so that residents feel that they can positively impact and improve the livability of their communities.

Local printing services can help spread the word about the need to complete such surveys with Flyers and other printed materials.

The survey is available on the city’s website and needs to be completed by Saturday August 31. Those who wish to complete the survey either by phone or paper can contact the Neighborhood and Community Services Department.
