Tacoma opens nominations for volunteer awards

Nominations for the City of Destiny Awards of the city of Tacoma are now open. These awards have honored local volunteers for the past 38 years.

Among the awards given are ones for Lifetime Service, Environmental Sustainability, categories in Youth and Group Services, Adult and Youth Leadership, and Economic Development. Since the inception of the awards in 1987, over 320 individuals and groups have been recognized for their outstanding contributions to improving life in Tacoma.

Brochure printing is often used to provide more information about qualifications for such awards and the nomination process.

The nominations and the awards process are supervised by the Events and Recognitions Committee (CERC) of the city. Members of CERC are appointed by the City Council and are leaders in the local community and come from a wide range of expertise and backgrounds. They develop the tools for nominations and the criteria for selection.

Alex Domine, vice chair of CERC, said that the City of Destiny Awards recognizes those organizations and individuals that generously gave back to the community. Domine added that it is important to the resilience of the city and the maintenance of its quality of life that these people are recognized and celebrated.

Nominations are due by Sunday March 10 by 11:59 p.m. The honorees will receive these awards at the annual ceremony in June.
