Tacoma city council chambers to undergo change

Construction is currently underway on the chambers of the City Council in Tacoma.

A conference table will be installed in front of the dais as part of this project. This will facilitate face-to-face conversations between leaders of the city and those who join them for regular meetings and study sessions. This will require the removal of the first two rows of chairs. However, it is hoped that this update will deepen its conversations and allow those who use the space to have more effective meetings by enabling more people to discuss topics at the table.

While this work is taking place, all meetings of the Council will be at the Tacoma Public Utilities Auditorium on South 35th Street. Meetings will continue to take place at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesdays until the project is completed. Flyer printing can be used to inform residents interested in attending such meetings of such changes in location and how the project will improve upcoming meetings.

Meetings will continue to be held in a hybrid format with options to attend in person and online. The locations of the meetings for the Council Committee and the Study Sessions are still being decided.

The first meeting to be held at the Auditorium will be on Tuesday June 4. The project is expected to be completed by early next month.
