Tacoma begins walking tours of the city

The first virtual walking tour of the Walk Tacoma Series for 2021 will begin next month. The series of tours will focus on individuals and locations that have had an impact on the city.

This first tour will be of the historic waterfront in downtown Tacoma, and will be led by the Director of the Tacoma Waterfront Association, Patty Peterson. Often, Print shops are hired to prepare maps of such routes, which can be made available to participants.

Spanning 1.6 miles, the tour will begin behind Henry Waterfront Apartments on the Foss Waterway Esplanade and will explore the fascinating and enjoyable waterfront of the city along the Esplanade. Participants will learn about the significance the waterfront has played in the history of the city and how it still influences and shapes its design, culture, and vitality.

MultiCare is a sponsor of the Walk Tacoma Series, which will include five different walking events. This is the 12th year of this series encouraging people to enjoy the city on foot. New routes for walking are highlighted, sharing information about the relevant communities and their histories.

This tour will be made available beginning next Wednesday, April 7. Those who register for the tour can pick up a Walk Tacoma gift bag filled with swag on that day at the George Weyerhauser park between 4:00 and 6:00 pm.
