Tacoma appoints new attorney for the city

Chris Bacha, Interim City Attorney and Chief Deputy City Attorney, has been appointed as City Attorney for Tacoma and has already started serving in this new position.

Subject matter experts, stakeholders from the organization, and leadership from the Office of the City Manager were involved in the rigorous interview process. The candidates who were the strongest demonstrated success in many subject areas, had expertise in the field, and displayed competency in the criteria identified for the position. Elizabeth Pauli, City Manager, said that Bacha exceeded the competencies and requirements needed for the position by some distance, and expressed her confidence that he will be successful in this new role.

With 36 years of experience in professional legal counsel, of which 17 are in leadership roles in the city of Tacoma, Bacha has also been the city attorney for other cities when he was working for a municipal law firm and a legal advisor to additional cities. Bacha has a bachelor's degree from the University of Washington in Society and Justice, and a J.D. from the Law School at the University of Puget Sound.

Bacha, who can now update his Business Cards to reflect his new position, expressed his honor in having the opportunity to serve the city of Tacoma in this leadership role. He officially took up his role on Tuesday, January 2.
