Romeo and Juliet commences season for Symphony Tacoma

Symphony Tacoma will be opening its 2019-2020 season next month at the Pantages Theater.

Flyer printing can be used to provide more details about such performances and other performances of the season.

The Symphony will be presenting an original production of Romeo and Juliet, which will be a performance of the ballet score written by Prokofiev accompanied by excepts from the love story written by Shakespeare. Students from Tacoma’s School of the Arts (SOTA) will be the actors and actresses in the performance. Sarah Ioannides is the music director beginning her sixth season with the Symphony.

Romeo and Juliet written by Prokofiev is an orchestral concert piece and a ballet score. It is comprised of suites with movements arranged in well-balanced sequences. The suites have been reordered by Ioannides along with selected passages from Shakespeare’s play to form a chronological narrative of the story of the famous lovers.

Romeo will be played by Libby Patsiga, Juliet by Annabelle Daniel, and Tybalt by Alexandra Vilenius, all of whom are students from SOTA and reprising their roles from the 2018 production. The Director of Theatrical Arts at SOTA, Gabriel McPherson, will narrate the performance and is the stage director. The technical direction will be done by Mark Thomason, Director of Technical Theatre and Design at SOTA.

The opening show will be on Saturday, October 19.
