A plan has been developed for the construction of a methanol gas plant in Tacoma, and public input is being sought into the process.
Two meetings have been scheduled to give locals an opportunity to have their say. They are being invited to give their input into what they feel should be the scope of the environmental review that will be conducted before the project commences. Those who cannot attend either of these gatherings will still have an opportunity to share their thoughts by Mailing in their comments
Once all of the public’s opinions have been gathered and reviewed, they will be then drafted into an environmental impact statement. This will be available for perusal, possibly as early as this summer. A booklet printing company can produce Copies of these that can be made accessible to those who would like to take them home and read them at their leisure.
The plant is likely to be a large consumer of both water and power. It is hoped that it will create as many as 1,000 jobs and generate 20,000 metric tons of methanol each day of its operation.
The public meetings are set to take place on January 21 and February 16. Those who would prefer to submit their thoughts in writing can do by February 17.
