Funding applications now available in Tacoma

Applications are now being accepted by Tacoma Creates for events and programs that preserve and/or advance heritage, the arts, culture, and science.

Two funding categories are available—Impact and Comprehensive Organizational Support. Impact funding can be used toward educational programs for young people and/or programs for the public. Non-profit organizations are eligible to apply as well as Neighborhood Councils and Business District Associations recognized by the city.

There are two levels of funding. One is for requests of over $3,000 but less than $20,000, and the other is for those requesting funds between $20,000 and $60,000. The two levels will be reviewed by separate panels.

Those requesting funds for Comprehensive Organizational Support can request up to 15% of their total budget for the year, up to a maximum of $400,000. Non-profit organizations are eligible to apply if they provide a wide range of cultural programs on an ongoing basis.

The availability of such funding is often promoted with Flyers distributed in community areas and created by local Print shops.

Victoria Woodards, mayor of Tacoma, said that Tacoma Creates enables eligible non-profit organizations to grow educational options for young people, increase access to public programs, and boost opportunities in neighborhoods throughout Tacoma.

The deadline to apply for Impact funding is Monday, March 27 while the deadline for the Comprehensive funding is Sunday, March 13. The events and programs need to take place between July 1, 2023 and June 30, 2024.
