While many Seattle gardeners may be familiar with honeybees, they may not be aware that they are an introduced species, and an upcoming learning opportunity will connect them with pollinators native to the area.
The Rainier Beach Urban Farm and Wetlands will be running its “Gardening for Wild Pollinators” class, which will be a two hour long event. It is intended for an adult audience, and several topics are on the agenda for discussion.
Participants will learn some basic facts about native pollinators, including tips for identifying them in the field. A review of which plants are best for attracting these bees, beetles, flies, butterflies, birds and other creatures is on the agenda, and tips for gardening without harming these animals will be shared. Everyone will go home with resources they can use to keep on learning, and there will be time for questions. Everyone is advised to dress for the weather.
A class provides the public with an opportunity to gain new knowledge, no matter their age. Handouts for an activity can be provided by local Stationery printers.
This chance for those who would like to learn how they can create a pollinator friendly garden will be on offer on June 3. It will run from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm at 5513 South Cloverdale Street.
