What's Happening in Seattle, WA…

Seattle summer camp to make sustainability fun

A Seattle summer camp that will introduce kids to sustainable eating is now accepting registration for a weeklong session, and is for youngsters between six and nine years old.

The Food Forest Explorers Summer Camp, which is an initiative developed by Beacon Food Forest Collective, will see children making discoveries about the world around them. It will run for five days, and the campers will get some hands-on experience in agriculture by lending a hand in caring for the site’s food forest.

During the five days, the registrants will engage in an assortment of activities, which include forging, plant propagation, gardening, and harvesting. They will also strengthen their observational skills, watching bees and other pollinators at work, learning why they are important. The registration fee is $400, and scholarships may be available for any families that need some assistance.

When planning an activity like this, it can be a good idea to connect with local print shops well ahead of time. They will be able to provide the organizers with everything from business forms to uniforms for the staff and volunteers, possibly with the camp's logo design.

The Food Forest Explorer's Camp will begin on July 12, and its final date is July 16. Applications may be submitted until June 30, and additional details will be emailed to each family after they have signed up.
