Mycology is the study of mushrooms and other fungi, and those who take a seat for an upcoming Seattle area presentation will walk away with a greater understanding and appreciation of these organisms.
The cool and damp days of autumn are conducive to mushroom growth, and before they take to the woods to forage or just enjoy discovering a species that is new to them, local amateur mycologists may want to take a seat for a talk presented at Bellevue Botanical Garden. The discussion will be led by Dr. Fred Rhoades who is a local subject matter expert.
The presentation will introduce species that are commonly found in the Pacific Northwest, and Dr. Rhoades will discuss their ecology and offer identification tips. He will also review the various species that tend to be going at different times of the year, and there will be time for questions as well. There is no charge to participate, but donations to the garden will be welcomed.
Mushrooms are a wild food that is becoming increasingly popular. Field guides of common and easily identifiable edible species can help foragers to get their feet wet, and a printing services company will be able to prepare them.
