The Pacific Northwest is home to many species of birds, and a workshop for Seattle’s newbie birders will introduce them to ones commonly seen in urban areas.
Even in cities, nature finds a way, and this is evidenced by the range of species of birds that call urban environments home. Hanae Benntencourt will be sharing her knowledge of these feathered friends during Bird Connect Seattle’s “Intro to Urban Birding” class, and while all are welcome, it may be especially helpful to the beginner.
The workshop will showcase 10 species commonly spotted in the city, and these range from feral pigeons to chickadees. The group will learn how they have adapted their behaviors to suit an urban environment, and the attendees can ask any questions they might have. Tickets are $20, and they may be made available at a reduced price for those in financial need.
An introductory birding class gives those who are new to a pastime a way to get their feet wet while also meeting others who are just getting started. A printing services company can lend a hand by creating basic field guides to help them identify the common species they spot.
This introduction to Seattle’s avian species is scheduled for Saturday, September 23. It will get started at 10:00 am at 2300 Arboretum Dr East.
