What's Happening in Seattle, WA…

NHL could be on its way to Seattle

Hockey fans in Seattle are excited at the prospect of an increased NHL presence in the city.

There has been plenty of positive reaction to the idea of more hockey being played in the metropolitan area of Seattle. Celebrities and local politicians have been swift to get behind the vision. Although there are a few people with reservations about the regional economics of the move, it seems that any anxieties on this front could be addressed.

One concern about an expansion of hockey is that it might be hard to increase the number of local fans. Everett Silvertips has its own base in the area, and there is a worry that a fresh NHL team could diminish support for this established outfit. Zorn Rajcic is an executive for the organization that owns Everett Silvertips, but is unconvinced that a negative scenario will play out. He told the Everett Herald:

“If you look at all the youth hockey associations from Tacoma, Kent, Sno-King, Seattle Junior and Everett Youth Hockey, it will probably bring more people to the table of getting them interested in the game, and hopefully that will trickle down and trickle up for everyone involved.”

Calendars and other merchandise can be used to help sports catch on. If enough people are prepared to get season tickets for a Seattle-based team, this should boost the profile of hockey and encourage the next generation to take part.
