Getting back to her street roots, a Mexican/Brooklyn based artists will be filling the walls of a Seattle art studio with color, shapes, and designs.
Marela Zacarias is the artist at work at the moment in MadArt Studio. Her exhibit, called Inside Out, is a collection of floor-to-ceiling murals sure to wow visitors.
Zacarias’s work consists of colorful geometric designs and shapes that are inspired by her cultural identity and the mythology that surrounds the ancient peoples who once lived in her area in Cuernavaca, Mexico.
At the heart of the exhibit is a stylistic pyramid, which hangs in the center of the space. It is made of plastic, mesh, and wood, and immediately catches the eye of the visitor.
This type of large-scale show is nothing new for MadArt Studio. It was founded in 2009 and was far from a traditional art gallery and studio. MadArt would showcase large-scale art exhibits in places like public parks, homes set to be demolished, and businesses. The nomadic organization moved into its current home in 2014, where it still shows massive works to try and connect the community with art and artists.
Visitors to art exhibits such as this one can get more information on the artist and the pieces on display with a program that can be created and printed at local Print shops.
Zacarias has been at work in the studio painting her murals for several weeks now. The opening reception for her finished work is Thursday, October 15. Inside Out runs from October 16 to December 12. MadArt Studio is located at 325 Westlake Avenue North.
