Festival set to celebrate Irish culture

The Seattle Center Festal is presenting the Irish Festival next month for two days.

Hosted by the Irish Heritage Club of Seattle, the first day of the festival takes place on St. Patrick’s Day and will no doubt attract many of those who come to the city for the parade.

The opening day is set to feature many performances by Irish singers, musicians and dancers, the screening of short Irish films, visual arts exhibits, and hands-on activities. Visitors can enjoy traditional Irish food and drink, play games and learn the Irish language. There will also be a marketplace where local merchants will be selling Irish-related items as well as arts and crafts.

There is also a genealogy seminar that will be held by Gillian Hunt and Fintan Mullan of the Ulster Historical Foundation. Participants will learn about various aspects of research, including an introduction to Irish and Scots-Irish research and using land records. Tickets are $25 until February 20 and $35 after. The seminar will take place on March 18 from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM.

It is likely that many vendors in the Irish marketplace will be handing out promotional products such as pens, which can be obtained from Seattle print companies.

The Irish Festival will be held at the Seattle Center from March 17 to 18. Admission is free of charge. For the latest information, call 253-237-2811.
