Festival celebrates the multiculturalism of Seattle

The 46th annual Northwest Folklife Festival is taking place for four days over Memorial Day weekend. The event is hosted by the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance.

The festival is set to feature over 5,000 performers who will be appearing on 25 stages. There will be music, dance, street performers, and storytelling. Over 100 cultural communities are expected to participate this year, many of which will be showcasing their traditional music and dances while wearing historic dress.

There will be a Discovery Zone for children that will feature plenty of hands-on activities and educational workshops.

For adults, there will be arts and crafts booths where vendors will be selling items such as handmade jewelry, pottery, paintings, and clothing accessories.

Organizers are still looking for volunteers to ensure the smooth running of the event. Sponsorships are available from $250 up to $10,000 to make sure the festival returns next year.

This popular festival usually attracts approximately 250,000 people over its four days. To remind people in Seattle that it is coming up, organizers may have worked with a local print company to distribute flyers in the community.

The Northwest Folklife Festival will be held at the Seattle Center from May 26 to 29. Admission is by a recommended $10 donation per person or $20 for a family. To learn the most current information about this festival, call 206-684-7200.
