Seattle’s Washington State Convention Center recently made an announcement that will greatly increase the capacity of the current facility.
The expansion, which will have a price tag of about $1.4bn, will double its current size, bringing it to about 440,000 square feet that will be contained in a building of five stories in height. The structure is currently a bus station.
According to the Seattle Times, this would allow the city to compete effectively with such places as Portland, Denver, and Vancouver, all of which have extensive convention facilities. It will also provide more business for area hotels.
One new structure being planned is a facility that contains a hotel and convention center across 45 stories. This will make it the largest one north of San Francisco. It will likely also provide spin-off benefits for other firms, such as Print companies that provide materials and support to area businesses, as well as those who may be coming in to host an event. They can produce custom printed Stationery, Business Cards, Signs, promotional Flyers and Posters, and even special Banners and other decoration for the grand opening celebrations for the new buildings.
Construction of the expanded facilities is expected to commence sometime in early 2017 and be completed in 2020.
