Seattle will be a sea of green for a full week leading up to St. Patrick's Day as the city celebrates all things Irish.
Irish Week 2020 has dozens of events all around Seattle – also known as the Emerald City - culminating in a giant St. Patrick's Day festival on March 17.
Things get started on Friday, March 7 with a soda bread baking contest from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm at T. S. McHugh's Restaurant on 1st and Mercer in Seattle. Admission is free and judging starts at 2:00 pm. Besides the baking, there will be Irish step dancing and music.
It is believed that St. Patrick was delivered to Ireland by pirates in 400 A.D. A recreation of the pirate landing will take place on March 13 at 5:30 pm at South Lake Union. Admission is free.
The 49th Annual Seattle St. Patrick's Day Parade will be held on Saturday, March 14 up 4th Avenue, immediately after Irish dignitaries join the Mayor of Seattle for an Irish flag-raising ceremony.

The Irish celebration continues all March, with an Irish Geneology Seminar on Saturday, March 21 and an Open Field Day at Magnuson Park, where adults and children and can try traditional Irish activities like hurling, Gaelic football, and camogie.
