Convention celebrates a literary sidekick

Watson Washington is taking place for three days next month in Seattle. Dedicated to one of the most famous sidekicks in literature, Dr. Watson from the Sherlock Holmes novels, the event is presented by the Sherlock Seattle Convention.

This year will feature two special guests: Robert Ryan who is the writer of ‘Dr. Watson at War’, and Larry Albert who is the Imagination Theater’s Doctor Watson. They will give talks and participate in panel discussions. The panels will also include writers of fan fiction, illustrators, and fans. Topics will include podcasting, writing, conducting research, and how to draw certain characters.

Other activities will include an arts and crafts jam, writing workshops, and a cosplay contest. Attendees will also get the opportunity to meet artists and authors. A popular part will likely be the vendors’ room where fans will be able to buy merchandise themed around the Arthur Conan Doyle Books.

Attendees must become members for the weekend. A general membership costs $50 and includes access to all programming, a badge, and a program, while VIP costs $70 and comes with a badge, deluxe program, and ‘swag bag’ containing items such as Postcards and Posters, which may be provided by a Seattle Print company.

Watson Washington will be held at the Broadway Performance Hall from October 21 to 23. To learn more, visit the official event website.
