Amazon to add thousands of jobs across country

Amazon, headquartered in Seattle, recently announced it will be adding 100,000 employees of all skill levels, many of which will be at fulfillment warehouses across the United States as well as in Seattle, in the next year and a half.

The global giant is expecting to open new fulfillment centers in Florida, New Jersey, Texas, and California. Additional employment opportunities will come from its Amazon Flex and Marketplace programs. Marketplace offers a way for retailers to sell goods on the main Amazon website and Amazon Flex is an on-demand package delivery program.

Jeff Bezos, CEO of Amazon, said these jobs are in fulfillment centers, the customer service network, and other facilities in local communities as well as in Silicon Valley and the Seattle headquarters. In addition to new fulfillment centers, there will be investments in machine learning, advanced logistics, and cloud technology which will also provide opportunities for employment.

At its corporate headquarters in Seattle, about 40,000 people are employed and most live in the South Lake Union neighborhood, close to headquarters. Many new skyscrapers have been built by Amazon for housing the thousands of white-collar workers who work at headquarters.
