Theater company near Kennewick presents musical

Mid-Columbia Musical Theater is all set to run ‘Ragtime’ this month.

Set in the early 20th Century, the musical tells the story of three groups living in New York at the time. One of them is Coalhouse Walker, Jr., a musician in Harlem, his lover Sarah and their social circle. Another is Mother and her upper class family in the suburbs, and the third is Tateh, an artist and immigrant from Eastern Europe, plus his family. Historical figures, such as Booker T. Washington, also make an appearance in the show.

Although it's nearly 100 years old, the musical contains themes that are still relevant today, such as class differences and gender equality. Producers of community theater and musicals regularly use posters to let people know about the performances and to give people an idea of what the show is about.

The production is directed by Robbie Heegel and is produced by Jonathan and Erin Dickey. More than 30 people are in its cast, many of whom are no strangers to the stage in Kennewick and the tri-cities area. Along with actors, an authentic Model T car has a starring role in the play too.

Tickets are $20 for adults, $10 for students and children, and $18 for seniors over the age of 60. Opening night is this Saturday, November 12, at 7:30 pm. The show runs until November 20. Evening performances are at 7:30 pm while Sunday matinees start at 2:00 pm.
