Renowned Indian dancer to perform in the Tri-Cities

A Kennewick resident who grow up in India is bringing Guru Sanchita Bhattacharya, one of the most well-known dancers of the Asian country, to the Tri-Cities area for a special performance.

Dance has been an important part of Sanchali Banerjee's life. While growing up in India, she began training in dance. Although she now calls Kennewick home, she continues to dance and has begun teaching classical Indian dance to others in the area, which Bhattacharya’s appearance forming part of this program.

Individuals who are putting together special events and performances can use poster printing to help spread the word and to encourage people to book their tickets in advance. In the case of Bhattacharya's performance, seats are limited, so advanced booking is highly recommended.

Banerjee describes Bhattacharya as an "enchanting, stunning dancer." Famous in India, Bhattacharya also danced at well-known spaces in the United States, such as Madison Square Garden. She performs in the Odissi style, which is one of eight classical dance forms in the country. According to Banerjee:

“It’s graceful, energetic, it has everything.

“This culture, this dance form — it’s so rich. You will connect to so many different things.”


Banerjee and Bhattacharya met while performing together on a show in India and the pair became friendly.

Bhattacharya's performance will take place at 7:00 pm this Saturday, September 9, at the cultural center of the Hindu Society of Eastern Washington, at 2100 Bombing Range Road in West Richland. Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for kids under the age of 12. They can be booked in advance by calling 509-212-7483.
