Kennewick theater announces 2016-2017 season

Broadway might be thousands of miles from Kennewick, but a local theater is shortening the distance. The Windermere Theater in the Toyota Center announced its 2016-2017 Broadway season on May 11.

A range of shows, from classics such as ‘Annie’ and ‘Rent’ to newer musicals such as ‘Once’, will pass through the town as of December 2016.

Subscriptions for the season are currently on sale and range from $200 to $300, based on the seats. The theater's box office held on open house on the evening of May 11 to provide additional information about the shows and subscriptions to interested patrons. The theater could also use postcard printing to spread the word about individual productions.

The season will get underway with a holiday show from Cirque du Soleil, ‘Cirque Dreams Holidaze’, on December 21. In January, the theater will offer the Kennewick premiere of ‘Once’, which is a musical based on the movie of the same name. It took home eight Tony awards, including the award for best musical, in 2012.

In February, ‘Annie’ will appear on stage, followed by the classic ‘Rent’ at the end of the month. Next year will mark the 20th anniversary of the musical, which is a re-imagining of La Boheme, set in Lower East Side of New York.

Individual tickets will go on sale soon for patrons who are interested in seeing just one or two shows.
