Kennewick loses a movie theater, but gains three restaurants

Kennewick residents have the opportunity to view new developments in the area from either a glass half empty or glass half full persepective.

Those who take the glass half empty viewpoint will note that the Regal Cinemas on West Quinault Avenue is scheduled for demolition, but those with a more positive outlook will note that across the street, the Red Lion Hotel Kennewick Columbia Center plans on building three restaurants. Plus, a retail space is planned for the site of the soon-to-be demolished cinema.

The projects are scheduled to begin in the fall and are expected to help revitalize the retail core in Kennewick. The new restaurants will consist of 12,000 square feet while the new retail space will be just under 50,000-square-feet.

Real estate developers who have big plans for an area can use banner printing to keep people up to date on what is going on.

So far, details about the restaurants and retail space are scant. There is a demolition permit from the city for the cinema, but there is no construction permit for the new space yet. The Red Lion Group has not announced what restaurants will be opening in the new spaces.

The Regal theater is still open for business and has not announced a closing date yet. It is expected that most of the construction work on the projects would happen during daytime hours.
