Issaquah Salmon Days Festival leaps to accept award

As a happy harbinger of the upcoming 2013 Issaquah Salmon Festival, last year’s equivalent event has just been awarded the prestigious gold Haas Wilkerson Grand Pinnacle. This annual honor is bestowed by the International Festival Events Association, and is a global award with winners being selected from a pool of worldwide venues.

It is not the first time the 44-year-old Issaquah Festival has won the gold, having previously achieved it in 2009. The yearly celebration of the return of salmon to spawn in Issaquah’s hatcheries has gained a reputation of being lively and well run.

No doubt of particular interest to printing companies, the festival has been cited for its creative marketing. Characterized always by its use of puns like “spawnsors,” and this year’s social media theme of “streaming live”, as well as its lively logos, the event has won awards for best Print ads and promotional materials.

The Festival is also a prime venue for direct marketing. Attended by over 150,000 people with hundreds of participating vendors; it is a good way to get the lay of the land in terms of those who might need fliers, special Menus, or creative digital Business Cards.

Of particular note is the ‘Splashmob’, in which participants Print out game cards and scour through town, visiting vendors to discover specially decorated salmon. Winners will receive prizes of up to $650 in the form of coupons.

This year’s festival takes place on October 5 and 6.
