Issaquah businesswomen honored with award nomination

Earlier this month October, five businesswomen from Washington state were honored by having their names put forward for the Nellie Cashman Award for Business Owner of the Year.

The event was used to celebrate the huge gains made by businesswomen in the Seattle area in the last twenty years.

Since the late 1990s, Washington state has seen an increase of 43% in the number of businesses owned by women in the area. More than 20,000 businesses have been started by women in the Seattle area alone since 2004.

Two of the nominees for the award this year were from Issaquah. Both Dr. Terry Jacobson from TLJ Aesthetics, MD, and Booginhead LLC’s Sari Davidson were nominated for the 35th Nellie Cashman Award.

The award is given annually to females who show both a sense of commitment and caring to their community, and also a strong sense of acumen for business. To be nominated, women must show community spirit, ethics, financial management skills, and entrepreneurial spirit, among other qualities. Many women who are nominated or win such an award choose to update their custom Business Cards to include the honor.

The event was held by Women Business Owners, an organization focused on female business owners in the region, and based out of Puget Sound. The Seattle Four Seasons Hotel hosted the event, for which Andrea Duffield of MOSAIC Rehabilitation was the award winner.
