Residents request new impact assessments

The Gig Harbor City Council is expecting to face some resistance from locals over a proposed sports complex.

The city council is almost ready to push forward with the sports complex, but some residents feel another environmental impact study should be conducted first. The council was presented with a petition that was signed by over 200 people asking that a fresh round of studies is conducted to assess how the sports complex will affect the region. Letterheads can often be found on documents such as petitions.

The new facility is planned to be built on 30 acres of land on Harbor Hill Drive. The final design shows that it will have six ballfields, as well as other amenities and parking lots. The speakers who presented the petition stated that the initial impact assessments were conducted a long time ago and many of the people who are currently living in Gig Harbor North were not given a chance to make their opinions known.

In particular, the residents are pushing for a new study on how the sports complex will affect traffic. They would also like an assessment on the impacts that will be caused by removing trees, as well as noise pollution and light pollution, and are asking for studies to be conducted on the project as a whole, rather than assessing particular phases individually.
