Annual race returns to Gig Harbor

The 16th annual Race for a Soldier will bring runners to Gig Harbor this September.

The organizer, The Permission to Start Dreaming Foundation, is presenting the race as part of its efforts to address challenges associated with post-traumatic stress and traumatic brain injuries. It will provide aid to military personnel, veterans, first responders, and their families.

Multiple pricing tiers are available for this event. The 5K costs $50, while participants ages 7 to 18 pay $30. The 10K costs $65, reduced to $35 for runners ages 7 to 18. The half-marathon entry is $90, or $70 for participants ages 7 to 18. Rates for all three distances will change after August 31st.

The children’s race costs $15, with a price change coming into effect after September 6. Virtual participation costs $45, and enrollment closes September 5.

FanShield insurance is available for the 5K, 10K, half marathon, and virtual option, but not the children’s race. Individuals interested in signing up can do so through the RunSignUp listing. Attendees should also note that different volunteer opportunities are available. These include racecourse marshals, aid station coordinators, bike leads, and gear checkers. Organizers often use banner printing to highlight different aid stations at events such as this one.

The event is scheduled for Sunday, September 13 at 10550 Harbor Hill Dr, Gig Harbor. The half marathon will begin at 7:50 am and end at noon, while the 10K will start at 7:55 am, the 5K at 8:00 am, and the children’s race at 10:00 am.
