Folk-rock and alternative country artist Marc Cohn will perform in a concert close to Gig Harbor next month. This will take place at the McMenamins Elks Temple, which is located 20 mins away in Tacoma.
The music bug first hit Cohn when he was in junior high school. That was when he began playing the guitar, writing songs, and performing with a local band called Doanbrook Hotel. Shortly afterwards, he taught himself to play the piano and began playing in coffeehouses around Los Angeles.
With his debut solo album, Marc Cohn, he released the song Walking in Memphis. Even today, this is the song on which most of Cohn’s fame is based. It earned him the Grammy Award for Best New Artist and nominations for two more. The eponymous album itself would eventually reach gold and then platinum status.
From there, Cohn would continue to release music. These included four subsequent albums of original tracks, two with bonus tracks, and one full of covers. Included in these was the critically acclaimed track Join the Parade, about the events of Hurricane Katrina. In addition, Cohn worked with several other top artists such as William Bell and Blind Boys of Alabama.
The concert will take place on Friday, April 29, at the Elks Temple at 565 Broadway, Tacoma. Venues such as the Elks Temple may be interested in Business Cards to help collaborate with top artists.
