Dr. Holmes Thanksgiving turkey trot returns

The 2024 “Gig Harbor Turkey Trot” is currently accepting online registrations for its annual 5k event, set to take place on Thanksgiving day.

The origins of the “Gig Harbor Turkey Trot” can be traced back to 2002 when Dr. Holmes, a local chiropractor, was challenged by his son to participate in a marathon. Lacking local running events to train for, Dr. Holmes organized a small 5k run on the morning of Thanksgiving, inviting patients, family, and friends to take part with him and to help support various community causes.

For this event, participants can pick up their race packets and purchase event T-Shirts on Wednesday from 2 pm to 6 pm at the Tom Taylor YMCA or on the morning of the race at Judson Street, starting at 7 am. Dogs are not allowed on the course.

The event is free for children 12 and younger. Those over 12 can register online for $20. It's important to note that registration fees will double to $40 on race day. Volunteers are also needed, and those interested can sign up online. All proceeds from this year’s race will benefit FISH, Food Backpacks 4 Kids, scholarships for regional high school children, and the Bischoff food bank.

Brochure printing can be used to provide attendees with information about events such as this one.

The race is set to take place on November 28th starting at 8 am. The race start line will be located at Judson St, Gig Harbor, Washington.
