Commencement Bank plans move to Gig Harbor

Commencement Bank has gained permission from federal authorities to open a full branch in Gig Harbor.

The regional bank based in Tacoma intends to relocate to the building that previously housed the Harbor General Store, as soon as it is renovated. In addition to the new Gig Harbor location, Commencement Bank has locations in Tacoma, Enumclaw, Auburn and Olympia. The bank was first established in 2006.

Allisha McVay, who formerly managed Columbia Bank facilities in Gig Harbor for the better part of two decades, leads the local bank. A senior marketing officer working at Commencement, named Galen Annest, commented to say:
“It wasn’t until we found Allisha and her team that we really felt it was the right time. We wanted people out there who already represented the community and have built relationships. The team we have out there is absolutely phenomenal.”

The relocation will take some time. Annest stated that the bank expects to move in the second half of 2024. The process for getting a permit in Gig Harbor began in April, shortly after the Harbor General Store shut down. Graphic design techniques are often used in the early stages of large projects such as this one.

Preliminary designs published through the municipal permit system include relocating pedestrian access points, as well as the potential remove of a tree that reaches dangerously close to overhead power lines, among other alterations.
