A community hike is being organized for the first week of January, providing area residents with a closer examination of the species that make up the town’s ecosystem.
The Afternoon on the Trails hike, which is part of the IslandWood Community Programs and Events, will look to hit the trail soon on a family-friendly walk that will provide each guest with fresh air. The hike is an opportunity for participants to shake off the dreariness of the “Big Dark” of winter in Washington by getting outside.
The hike will be the first of the Open Trail Day series for 2026, providing a setting where friends and neighbors can reconnect with nature in the wake of the busy holiday season. The scheduled date will be the only date when interested parties can enjoy self-guided exploration. Print shops can use their skills and expertise to produce maps that organizers can provide to participants at such hiking events.
The Spine Trail is a popular option for families who seek adventure, with hikers crossing a suspension bridge to take in the beauty of the ravine below. Several other trails will be open for exploration during the event.
IslandWood in Bainbridge Island will host the community hiking event on Sunday, January 4th, from noon to 4:00 PM. Registration is free online for interested parties of all ages.
