Major party arranged in Aberdeen

Aberdeen will soon be the place to be for a big celebration.

Aberdeen always celebrates its founding, and after dealing with changes to the schedule in the past two years, the city is ready to party again with the 9th Annual Aberdeen Founders’ Day Parade and Festival.

Samuel Benn is credited with founding the City of Aberdeen on May 28, 1868, the day Benn and his family arrived on the Lower Chehalis River. Benn’s birthday is July 2, and that is the date chosen to celebrate Founders’ Day. Each year, people gather to recognize the community and its colorful history that includes fishing and logging.

Aberdeen is renowned as the place where Kurt Cobain and Nirvana got their start, plus it is also the home port of two tall ships, the Hawaiian Chieftain and the Lady Washington. The latter is portrayed the “Interceptor” in the film “Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl.”

The event will take place July 2, with the parade stepping off at 12:00 pm and lasting until 1:30 pm. The fun goes all day, ending at 4:00 pm. The parade takes place in Downtown Aberdeen, on Market Street, with vendors setting up shop on Broadway Street. Admission is free. Events like this can be even more fun if organizers work with banner printing companies to create directional signage helping attendees to find specific locations.
