Class for hopeful flaggers in Aberdeen

People who would like to join highway crews have a chance to become certified flaggers next month.

Flaggers are vital parts of road crews, responsible for controlling traffic in areas where road repair is occurring and ensuring that workers are protected, and traffic continues can move consistently and safely. Flaggers must set up proper warnings so that motorists are aware of the upcoming obstruction.

Graduates of the course will be certified to work in Montana, Idaho, Oregon, and Washington. The certification is valid for a period of three years. Organizers of events like this can turn to flyer printing to create handouts for attendees.

To attend the class, students must pre-register and be at least 18. They must bring photo ID, and provide either proof of vaccination against COVID-19 or a negative test no more than 72 hours old. To be certified, students must pass the test with a mark of 80% or higher. They must also fill out the registration form completely.

Organizers need at least 10 students for the class to go ahead and will cancel it if the minimum number is not reached. They will inform students of the cancellation, and they can either ask for a full refund, or attend the next class. Flagger classes are frequently held in Aberdeen.

The next class is set for March 12 at 7:45 am, at Grays Harbor College. Students must arrive by 7:45 am, and will not be admitted after 8:00 am. The all-day class ends at 5:00 pm.
