Aberdeen has new fire chief

Aberdeen’s Personnel Committee and Mayor Pete Schave recently recommended that John Clark be appointed to the top spot in Aberdeen’s fire department, and the City Council approved the recommendations, agreeing to hire Clark as head of the agency.

It follows the retirement of Chief Tom Hubbard, who stepped down after almost 30 years of service. Dave Golding has held the position in the meantime on an interim basis.

Clark is currently serving as Fire Chief of North Whidbey Fire and Rescue, where he has been since March, 2020. Prior to his service on Whidbey Island, Clark was the Fire Chief of Oregon’s Baker City Fire Department. Earlier in his career he served in two communities in Michigan, as the Assistant Fire Chief of the Washington Township Fire Department, and as the Fire Chief of Delta Charter Township.

Clark has a strong educational background in fire science, holding a bachelor’s degree in Fire Engineering granted by the University of Cincinnati, and a Master’s Degree in Safety Administration from the University of Eastern Kentucky.

He also holds professional certifications as a Professional Emergency Manager, Fire Inspector, Fire Plans Examiner, Fire Instructor I, Paramedic, and Fire Officer III.

Officials expect Clark to assume his office on Monday, August 1. When appointments like this are made, agencies often design and Print Business Cards for the new official.
