Theater enthusiasts have an event in Aberdeen to anticipate.
The Aberdeen Shakespeare Theatre will be performing “Pieces of Shakespeare,” a fun event that will allow people a glimpse into how a play is prepared for performance. The afternoon starts off with Jeff Ryser giving Hamlet’s monologue—there are several in the play, but it is likely he will undertake the famous “To be or not to be” soliloquy – and then the company will workshop Merry Wives of Windsor. Legend has it Shakespeare created this comedy at the behest of Queen Elizabeth I.
When a theater company workshops a play, the actors are not trying to give a full performance. Instead, they perform the show with their scripts in hand, asking the audience to make suggestions on how to improve the presentation. This allows the actors to incorporate the audience’s ideas into the show before it opens.
To keep everyone safe and healthy, there will be two seating areas. Those who have been vaccinated will be seated in a space where it is not necessary for them to wear masks. Those without vaccinations will be seated in another area and are required to wear masks and remain socially distanced. Poster printing is an excellent way to advertise events like this.
The Shakespeare afternoon is set for next Saturday, July 10, from 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm, at Sam Benn Memorial Park on Hanna Avenue.
