An event has been planned in Williamsburg that will give youngsters a chance to try one of the world's most popular activities.
The Williamsburg Parks and Recreation Department hopes to hook youngsters on fishing by organizing an event just for them—a Kids Fishing Derby. The department is inviting children from the ages of 5 through 13 to cast a line and see if they might enjoy the sport. The youngsters can win prizes as they learn to fish. Flyer printing can be used to create instructional sheets for events like this.
The participants will be separated by age, with each group having a different time to fish. Children ages 5 through 7 will be allowed to fish from 9:00 am until 9:45 am; youngsters ages 8 through 10 have the 10:00 am until 10:45 am slot; and those ages 11 through 13 will be able to fish from 11:00 am until 11:45 am. The fee for registration is $5 for each child, and there will be prizes awarded in each age group for the most fish caught, as well as the smallest and largest fish hooked.
At present, the Kids Fishing Derby is scheduled for June 6, from 8:30 am until 12:30 pm, at the Waller Mill Park on Airport Road. There are only 20 spots available for each age group, so interested parents should register soon. Participants should check the website for information about possible scheduling changes.
