An immersive and historic workshop has opened enrollment in Williamsburg for next month, allowing area residents and visitors to learn more about the colonial town’s history.
The Pottery: The Secret to a Post-Colonial Williamsburg workshop is getting ready to explore the town’s history and share skills and techniques with interested parties who want to pair creativity with knowledge. It is being held in commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States.
Attendees will explore the historic town’s role in the days following independence, with a focus on the relationship between technology and clay. The access to clay helped Williamsburg become an influential city during America’s early days.
The workshop’s guide, Thomas Killian III, will shed light on and demonstrate different works that blur the lines between archaeology, studio ceramics, and contemporary art. Flyer printing is a cost-effective and visible way to promote such events in the community, increasing attendance and support.
Each attendee will get to witness the demonstrations before decorating a stoneware piece of art. They will also receive an informational brochure that provides a summary of all of the learning material covered during the pottery workshop.
The James City County Parks & Rec in Williamsburg will host the workshop on Friday, January 23rd, and Saturday, January 24th. Interested parties can register by calling the organizer or going online. Registration is $10 per person.
