Since March, Snyder had been serving as the interim chief. He was the deputy fire chief for about eight years before he was given the post of fire chief on an interim basis. Snyder, in his role as permanent fire chief, will now also be the coordinator of emergency management. The announcement was made by Andrew Trivette who is the City Manager. When making the announcement, Trivette also said:

Snyder is a graduate of William & Mary. He has almost 30 years of experience working in emergency medical and fire services. Before starting his career, Snyder climbed the management ladder of the EMS Department in Hanover. He started working there as a volunteer at the age of 16 and returned to work there as a medic and firefighter after completing college.
