New restaurant now open in Williamsburg

The first Popeyes to be located in Williamsburg is now open for business, after several weeks of delays.

The franchisee of the new restaurant is Carl Gorospe, who has 14 other Popeyes in the Norfolk area. The eatery is at 1500 Richmond Road, in a freestanding building with Discount Tire across the street. New businesses like this can distribute Promotional Products to build brand recognition.

Gorospe said he had been thinking about opening a Popeyes in Williamsburg, but could never find a location until this opportunity arose. The restaurant, which is larger than most stores in the chain, comes in at 3,500 square feet, and will provide jobs for about 45 people. He added that this location uses the company's prototype as a model, but has added decorative elements inside and out. However, the new restaurant also has to comply with Williamsburg's architectural code, which requires most buildings to resemble colonial structures.

There is space left in the building for another two companies, but there is no word yet as to what sort of businesses will be moving in, although a Cuban restaurant has expressed some interest in the location. However, there is no restriction on what kind of business can lease the premises.

The new Popeyes is open from 10:30 am until 9:00 pm Sundays through Thursdays, and from 10.30 am until 10.00 pm Fridays and Saturdays. There is also a drive-thru available an hour longer than the indoor space.
