Midtown Row gets new mural

Midtown Row, a district in Williamsburg, has recently embraced a fresh burst of color, adding a new lively atmosphere to its walls.

The Williamsburg Public Art Council proudly revealed its second outdoor art mural, this one created by artist Britt Flood. The mural can be seen on the exterior wall of the Food Lion establishment on Richmond Road. According to Flood, the mural symbolizes the profound bond between humans and nature, aiming to create a vibrant space where the community can engage with the artwork and find reflections of themselves.

Named "Fl(our)ish," the art installation features prominent elements such as oak trees and a red cardinal. It incorporates an abstract face intricately woven with vibrant swaths of red, orange, and yellow, contrasting against a backdrop of sky blue. The flowing lines within the artwork symbolize the numerous nature trails that can be found throughout Williamsburg.

Vice Mayor Pat Dent, who is a member of the city’s art council, stated:

“We felt like this was really representative of the togetherness of Williamsburg.”

In the autumn of 2022, Flood's artwork was selected from a pool of 13 submissions by other art and graphic design experts.

Dent mentioned that the Art Council, established in 2021 to provide guidance to the City Council regarding public art, was deeply committed to choosing an artwork that resonated with the essence of Williamsburg.
