Mayor talks of Williamsburgs past and future at biennial address

The Biennial State of the City address for Williamsburg was held at the start of December at the Stryker Center.

The event started off with a pre-recorded speech and a public reception came after. Officials from the city council talked about what the city has achieved over the past few years and presented their development plans for the coming years. Katherine Rowe and Cliff Fleet who are the presidents of the William & Mary and the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation respectively also made contributions to the address that lasted for about an hour. Flyer printing can be used to list the key speakers for a specific event.

The overriding theme in the message from the mayor was about how everyone in the community has a role to play in order for the city to succeed. Mayor Doug Pons also said that the city’s vision includes large and small projects that are numerous and varied. Some of them are short term while others look decades into the future.

The projects mentioned in the mayor’s speech include affordable housing, improved infrastructure, mental health programs, and the Capitol Landing Road Corridor. Most of these projects are part of the city’s Williamsburg 2040 plan, which was created with input from the public received at the eight Future Festival events hosted by the city.
