Council decides on new fire station installations

The new fire station being built on Boundary Street could soon be welcoming a new alerting solution after a meeting held by Williamsburg’s City Council.

Fire Chief Larry Snyder was present at a recent council meeting where he presented his proposal for the new alerting system. He stated:

“Early on when we were discussing what this new design for the fire station was going to look like, we knew fire station alerting was going to be such an important piece of it because of the health and safety of the firefighters that will call it home.”

Construction on the new fire station started in April. The new station will have 31,000 square feet of space and will cost a total of $14.5m to build, with an expected completion date of Summer 2023. The team has been working for several months to figure out which system would be best for the new station. Printing services can be used to teach staff how to use new equipment.

The staff has recommended that the station uses US Digital Designs. Installing the equipment and training the firefighters on how to use it will cost $274,117. Putting in additional equipment will cost $440,000 and the annual cost for maintenance, repair, and certain upgrades will come to about $30,000 a year.

Other fire stations that are currently using US Digital Designs can be found in Chesapeake, Virginia Beach, and Richmond.
