An innovative pianist is on the way to Williamsburg to celebrate the holiday season.
Don Irwin, who is associated with Steinway pianos, will be playing holiday music at a concert soon. Irwin has been praised for his technique and virtuosity, and for the emotional impact of his concerts.
Irwin is a classically-trained pianist whose international career began in the 1990s, when he signed a contract with South Africa Transistor Records, with the intention of making an album for the African and European markets. That album was so successful he made several appearances on MTV Africa, MTV Europe, and at the Cannes Music Festival.
The South African government asked him to give concerts in schools in Zimbabwe and South Africa, so students could hear different types of music, ranging from classics to Irwin's own compositions. In the mid-1990s, Irwin received more requests to appear, in New York City at Bloomingdale's flagship store, and at the Mall of America in Minnesota. These appearances were the beginning of his annual fall concert in Minneapolis. He performs in many different venues, from retirement homes to concert halls.
A review of one of his concerts calls him an “amazing pianist” who “makes his music come alive.”
Irwin will be in Williamsburg on December 6 at the Kimball Theatre. The concert runs from 7:30 pm until 10:00 pm. Poster printing is often used to publicize events like this.
