Amendments recommended for several projects

The James City County Planning Commission voted unanimously in favor of approving a request to amend the master plan for the Warhill Sports Complex in Williamsburg.

According to the amendment proposal, the master plan for the Warhill Sports Complex would be updated to include a number of changes. These include the addition of four multi-use sports fields, concessions, restrooms, lighted tennis, and pickleball courts; a softball and baseball stadium; and new roads and extra parking spaces.

The project’s amenities have undergone changes over time as the master plan was developed. The Warhill Sports Complex Master Plan from 2016 originally included several amenities that were later eliminated. The amenities removed included one of the baseball complex’s large fields to make room for expanded parking, seven multipurpose fields, a proposed facility for indoor sports, and a bus station for the Williamsburg Area Transit Authority (WATA) serving the area. Poster printing could be used to inform the public about this type of ongoing construction work.

Along with the Warhill Sports Complex amendment, the planning commission unanimously voted 5-0 to approve changes to other master plans such as those for Upper County Park, Jamestown Beach Event Park, and Chickahominy Riverfront Park.

The amendment proposed for Chickahominy Riverfront Park includes a provision to remove recreational vehicle (RV) and camping facilities, and designate an area for a water treatment plant on the park’s eastern side. The amendment also involves changing internal roads and removing the second entrance off Route 5.
