Virginia Beach tour to be all about butterflies

The swallowtail group of butterflies includes several species that are large and showy, and these will be the stars of a Virginia Beach excursion.

Naturalist Maurice Cullen will be leading a walk that will be on the hunt for swallowtails at a local butterfly garden. Everyone can bring their phone or camera so they can get plenty of pictures, and the outing will depart from REI 350 Independence Blvd.

When they arrive at the departure point, registrants will choose their seat, and as they travel to the butterfly garden, they will learn more about these colorful insects and the plants they on which they depend. The travel time to the garden will be approximately half an hour, and it will be a guided tour. At noon, the group will head to the selected lunch venue, and after their meal, the bus will make the return trip to the departure point.

Tickets for this butterfly-themed event are $50 each. T-Shirts that feature a Nature Bus theme graphic design may be purchased, but they must be ordered in advance. These come in several colors and sizes. More information about how to place an order is available on the function's web listing.

This day of learning about Virginia Beach’s swallowtail butterflies will take place on Saturday, August 24th. The bus will depart from the pick-up point at 9:00 am.
