Virginia Beach session introduces astronomy

Any Virginia Beach residents who are interested in astronomy but unsure how to get started are on the guestlist for an evening activity.

The Astronomy 101 session in late February will have a Valentine's theme, and the organizers hope that it will spark a love for the activity among those who take part. It will be divided into a class and a hands-on experience, and while it is open to all ages, anyone 10 and under will need to be accompanied by an adult.

Participants will begin the session by learning about stars, constellations and other celestial objects that may be spotted by the amateur astronomer. After this, they will head outdoors for a stroll and gain some experience using the telescopes provided. The fee for the activity is $5 each, and a center membership, day pass, Silver Sneakers or other qualifying/insurance membership is mandatory to register.

An in-person workshop or other session provides the public with a chance to gain some experience with a new hobby or pastime. A brochure printing company can supply a variety of learning materials that may be useful to those who take part.

The “Valentine’s in the Sky” installment of Astronomy 101 will be on offer in Virginia Beach at the Kempsville Recreation Center on Thursday, February 26 beginning at 7:00 pm. Due to the outdoor element, the session may need to be cancelled or rescheduled if the weather is unfavorable.
