The Virginia Beach Master Gardener program provides a way for local green thumbs to give back, and it will be offering the inside scoop on rain barrels during workshops it has scheduled for the 2026 gardening season.
The organization will be providing the public with a chance to learn how rain barrels may benefit their own property as well as the local environment. With dates offered from late June through to mid-October, all will be hands on, and everyone will go home with their own rain barrel.
The registration fee for the workshop is $85, which includes the instruction as well as the materials needed to prepare a barrel. Everyone will learn how and where to place theirs so it makes the most impact, and the session will be family friendly so even kids can lend a hand. The class will begin at 9:00 am, and is scheduled for the Virginia Beach Farmers’ Market.
More people are developing an interest in environmental stewardship, and taking a seat in class or workshop can help them get started. Instruction and tip sheets, as well as an assortment of marketing material for an activity, can be ordered from area Stationery printers.
Virginia Beach residents who would like to make their property more environmentally friendly are welcome to register for June’s Rain Barrel Workshop, which will be held on Saturday, June 20. The venue can be found at 3640 Dam Neck Road.
