Wireless society to hold fest in Vienna

The Vienna Wireless Society will return to Oakton High School this March to hold its annual winter festival.

Winterfest is an annual market and tailgating party where amateur radio operators can meet other electronics enthusiasts. The attending vendors will sell many kinds of electronic parts, such as antennas, connectors, and vintage ham gear. People can participate in a radio raffle at the festival and purchase food from Vie de France. Those interested in becoming a vendor may purchase tables for $20 or $25, depending on their needed length.

The Vienna Wireless Society is a club that is comprised of more than 300 licensed amateur radio operators. The group began in 1963 and has since become one of the state’s most active Amateur Radio organizations. The society holds many types of activities, including educational programs, recreational radio operations, and emergency service activities. The group was named Club of the Year in 2021 by the Dayton Hamvention Organization.

Winterfest will take place on Sunday, March 10th from 8:00am to 2:00pm. General admission to the fest will cost $15 per person, and raffle tickets can be bought for $10 each. Those who take part in the raffle don’t need to be present to win the radio prize. Clubs that put together markets like this may use banner printing to get people interested in their programs.
