Vienna library to provide medical training

The Patrick Henry Library in Vienna will be offering a workshop in April that teaches attendees how to give medical assistance to bleeding individuals.

Stop The Bleed® is a course where students will learn how to recognize life-threatening bleeding. The instructors for the workshop will teach attendees three different actions for controlling the situation. Participants are expected to practice the movements until they can properly demonstrate the correct actions needed for saving a life. Topics covered in the workshop include packing wounds and correctly applying a tourniquet.

Stop The Bleed® is an initiative launched in 2017 that was created by the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma. The program aims to teach lifesaving bleeding control methods to every American, and set up bleeding control kits in all public venues. Since forming, the initiative has trained 70,000 instructors and held 76,000 courses. Those who organize medical programs such as this may promote their workshops with poster printing.

The class will take place on Saturday, April 23 from 11:00 am to 1:30 pm in the Patrick Henry Meeting Room. Registration for Stop The Bleed® will open on Saturday, March 26 at 11:00 am. All guests at the library need to wear face masks throughout the workshop. People interested in purchasing equipment from the organization can pay $38 for a personal kit and $49 for an enhanced kit.
